the aim of this study was to translate into Spanish and to validate the “Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale” (BPNES) developed by Vlachopoulos and Michailidou (2006). A sample of 233 subjects who practiced physical exercise was used. The results of a confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the three-factor structure of the Spanish version of the scale. Correlations among the subscales confirmed the construct validity of the scale. Results have showed satisfactory levels of internal consistency. Finally, no gender differences were found. These findings give preliminary support the use of the Spanish version of the BPNES for the assessment of the basic psychological needs in physical exercise.
