The purpose of the current study was to develop and analyse the psychometric properties of an instrument to test student´s motivational regulation in physical education classes. 1312 secondary school students participated in the study, ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old (M = 14.05; SD = .92). Exploratory factor analysis was carried out to test the internal structure of questionnaire and factorial validity was calculated through a confirmatory factorial analysis, reaching a model that showed a structure formed by five factors (CFI= .96; TLI = .95; GFI = .95; SRMR = .04 y RMSEA = .05). The scale showed an appropriate internal consistency (α > .70) as well as an adequate nomological validity, through the relationships obtained respecting satisfaction of basics psychological needs and intention to persist. Moreover, via invariance analysis no significant differences were found relating to participants’ academic year and gender, emphasising the Questionnaire of Motivation in Physical Education Classes (CMEF) as a valid and reliable instrument to assess type of motivation in physical education classes.
