This study aims to examine the relationships between self-determination theory and stress coping strategies in dancers, as well as to know which variables could predict the use of a strategy in stressful moments. The sample was formed by 96 dancers ranging in age from 11 to 55 years old who belonged to different dance School. Several instruments were used to measure self-determination level, satisfaction of the three psychological needs and stress coping strategies. Results showed positive relationship among intrinsic and identified motivation and the satisfaction of the competence, autonomy and relatedness with respect the use of some strategies oriented to the task or problem, whereas amotivation showed this relationship regarding strategies orientated to adversity. Moreover, intrinsic motivation and perception of competence appeared as main predictors in the use of strategies orientated to the task in dancers.
