Javier P©rez-Tejero, Javier Pinilla e Yves Vanlandewijck

This study aims to characterize the individual performance profile of basketball players with intellectual impairment (II) and to distinguish winning and losing teams. For this, in the line of the scientific literature in conventional basketball, the official game related statistics of the World Basketball Championship for players with II (Ankara, 2013) were analyzed. A total of 13 matches and 46 participant players were studied. This study showed a lower individual shooting effectiveness, more number of rebounds and more turnovers than conventional basketball. Also there were found significant differences between winning and losing teams in steals, assists, successful 2 points shots and 2 points shots percentage. These results constitute a first step in the development of specific eligibility systems in basketball for players with II from the performance analyses during competition.
