Luis Tom¡s Rodenas Cuenca

Soccer is one of the collective sports that most interest generates worldwide no matter the populations or no matter the age. Women´s soccer is growing more each and every day due to an increase in television transmission and rapidly growing professional leagues around different countries. The objective of this study is the analysis of the relationship between group cohesion and motivational climate in female football. The sample was formed by 223 female football players with ages between 17 and 23 years old that participated in interuniversity league, they completed the Perceived Motivational Climate in Sports Questionnaire-2 (PMCSQ-2) and Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). After performing the regression analysis, we found that task’s oriented climate was associated to individual attraction towards task and social involvement; meanwhile task and ego-oriented involvement were associated to group cohesion. In general, we conclude that task oriented motivational climate is a better predictor of group cohesion than the ego-oriented climate, which is why it is fundamental to practice it in team sports.
