This study focuses on analyzing the behavior of instruction of youth coaches in competition. The second goal is to make the comparison between coaches who guide teams in step direction (n=6) and specialization (n=3) training of young players. The nine coaches observed managed junior "A" (17-18 years), "B" (15-16 years) and "C" (13-14 years) level teams. The data collection was done in two games of Portuguese national championships. For coding of instructional behaviors used the Analysis System of Instruction in Competition for football (ASIC). We conducted a descriptive analysis of the data and to make comparisons between groups of coaches used the T Test and U Mann-Whitney Test (p ≤ .05). The results show that coaches emit information aimed preferably prescriptive, directed to the athlete, using verbal communication and predominantly content tactical. Most of the studied variables, no significant differences between groups of coaches were registered.
