We intend to analyze the behavior of coaches’ instruction, behavior of athletes in competition and check for correlations between behavioral and cognitive variables. Four young football coaches participated in the study. The teams competed in the Portuguese national championships. The instruments used were SAIC, SOCAC and the Questionnaire about Self- Perception of Instruction and Perception of Behavior of Athletes in Competition. In competition the instruction was preferentially prescriptive, auditory, directed the athlete with tactical content, athletes proved to be attentive and modified the behavior positively. The coaches had the perception that emitted more positive affective instruction auditory-visual, directed to the athlete, psychological content, the athletes were attentive, modified the behavior positively and continued to perform the action/behavior previously valued. We note some correlations between variables; however the results show that there is any inconsistency between the instruction and behavior of athletes and the perception of the coaches at the end of the competition.
