The objective of this study was to examine the representation of tactical problems in volleyball players of different experience in regulated competition. 8 female volleyball setters from three different categories of Spain’s national teams took part in the study. Three groups were established according to their level of expertise: (G1, n=2) players with high level of experience; (G2, n=3) players with medium level of experience; (G3, n=3) players with low experience. The results showed that the problem representation of the volleyball setters was more advanced and varied as the experience of the players increased. The setters with high experience produced a greater number and variety of conditions, a greater variety of actions, with a more complete and sophisticated conceptual structure, characterized by the predominance of double and triple concepts. The setters with medium experience also showed a more elaborated knowledge than the players with low experience. These findings are according to previous studies in cognitive performance in sport.
