ELITE SPORT CLIMBING OBSERVATION TOOL CONSTRUCTION AND THE STIMATION OF DATA QUALITY

resumen

Aitor Arbulu, Oidui Usabiaga y Julen Castellano

This work aims to estimate the data quality of an observational tool which is ad hoc designed. Sport Climbing Observational Tool (SCOT) is formed by six criteria and 74 categories, contemplating the actions performed by the climber with his upper extremities in both frequency and duration. After four observers follow a training process, a record for an ascent was made. With the records obtained by consensus agreement, the Pearson correlation, Cohen Kappa coefficients, and the study of generalizability for all frequencies and durations were carried out. The results were optimal, with a correlation of 0.99, association values above 0.82 and accuracy in the generalization close to one. To conclude, the suggested tool is reliable to proceed in a systematic way to code and record the actions performed in elite climbing. Its application will allow coaches and climbers to know temporary strategies used in climbing, in order to design and optimize training.
