The purpose of this paper is to identify the anxiety levels in young competition swimmers, the reasons for their participation in sports, as well as the relationship between both. The sample consists of 82 competition swimmers of different categories. The swimmers completed the Reasons for Sports Practice Questionnaire and the Spanish version of the anxiety questionnaires CSAI-2 and SCAT. The results obtained reveal that the main reasons for practicing swimming are as follows: a willingness to improve the technique, make friends and belong to a team, and an interest in action /adventure. The levels of competitive trait and state anxiety are not high. Some differences can be appreciated between anxiety and the reasons for practicing, and also between swimmers who showed the highest levels of anxiety and those who showed the lowest level.
