The objective of this work is to analyze the mediating effect of the general satisfaction of the residents who attended the III Fiesta del Deporte held in Murcia between the perceived impacts and future intentions regarding the celebration of this sporting event. A sample of 218 residents who attended the event was interviewed using a questionnaire made up of 33 items that collected possible benefits and costs derived from hosting the event. The results of this study have identified four factors that measure the construct of social impact in small-scale sporting events: socio-economic benefits, socio-cultural benefits, sporting benefits and social costs. The significant and positive relationship between the socio-cultural and sporting benefits and the general satisfaction and future intentions of the residents with the celebration of the event was verified. Finally, the complete mediating effect of the variable general satisfaction of the residents between the intangible benefits (socio-cultural and sporting) and the future intentions of the citizens with respect to the celebration of the event was verified. The results of this study allow the organisers to know what aspects they must influence in order to improve the satisfaction and future intentions of the residents.
