EL EFECTO DE LA FRECUENCIA DE PARTICIPACIÃ?Â?N EN UN PROGRAMA DE EJERCICIOS CONTRA RESISTENCIA SOBRE LA ESTIMA Y LA SATISFACCIÃ?Â?N CORPORAL DE MUJERES UNIVERSITARIAS COSTARRICENSES

Abstract

Isaura Castillo y José Moncada

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the frequency of participation in a resistance training program on body satisfaction (BS) and body esteem (BE) in college women. Participants were 56 students, which were assigned to control and experimental groups. Each experimental group performed the same 90-min per session resistance exercise program, with differences in the frequency of participation. While a group performed two sessions per week during the summer (SU), the other group performed a weekly session during a semester (SE). Results did not indicate a significant effect of the frequency of participation in a resistance training program in the BS and BE in college women in spite of the differences in the BE and level of physical activity among participants in the experimental and control groups, and the BS among the participants of the SU and SE options.
