Abstract

Roberto Ruiz Barquín

The goals of this work are: 1.- To describe the personality characteristics of a sample of competitive young spanish judo players (men and women; n=34) participants at the 2002 Spanish National Championship, through the dimensions included in the BFQ questionnaire of personality (Bermúdez, 1995); 2.- To establish potential relations between personality characteristics and sport outcomes; 3.- To assess the predictive ability of the questionnaire through techniques of multivariate analysis. By means of a quasi-experimental design the following conclusions were reached: a) There are differences in the results between women and men groups; b) It is remarkable the relevance in both groups of judokas of the Conscientiousness dimension, and of the Energy dimension only in the group of juvenile women; c) Lineal regression analyses show high explained percentages of variance for the group of competitive young Spanish judo players women.
